A Healthy Baby Peanut

I had my first doctor appointment today. It was supposed to be pretty boring- just give them my medical history, some blood, pee in a cup, and call it good. But this morning I had had some very light spotting, and that, combined with me passing out and hitting my head yesterday morning (just a head rush, no big deal), got me an early ultrasound! Typically I wouldn't have heard the heartbeat for a couple weeks, and wouldn't have actually seen the baby until 20 weeks, so this is huge. Especially with all my online friends who have miscarried (we lost 3 yesterday), it was worrisome and I was eager to make sure I had a viable pregnancy.
They squeezed me into the ultrasound at the last minute, so it was real quick. I still haven't even met any of the midwives I'll be working with. That appointment is November 5th.
I've got a healthy little baby in there! I got to see it, it fluttered around, was a little over an inch long, and had a heart beat of about 180 beats per minute (it seems high but is the upper range for babies at 9 weeks- it'll drop as time goes on). I'm still right on track for my original guessed due date of May 20th.
Here's a picture of the picture. The little peanut-looking thing is the baby:

So everything's great, and I got an early look at my healthy baby. Definitely worth a morning of worrying.

This is Julie formally Kruse. I've totally missed you lately and was so happy when I came across your blog. You wouldn't believe how I found out. I was looking at Ryan Lowe's facebook thingy which led me to Megan Horrocks's and then to your name which I googled, found your website then the blog. Whoa!

Congrats on the wedding and the baby! I'm so excited for you. I just laughed and laughed reading your posts about finding out and all because I totally went through the same thing. We went eight months before my first.

Anyway, you can email me if you want or check out my blog so I don't take up all your comment space.
