First, let me say I had a great weekend. Many video games and cuddle sessions.
Next, I might as well announce our potential change in plans. So I've really stressed my whole 3-phase plan, but it looks like we added another phase, perhaps: instead of moving to Texas (or wherever) in August of '08 after Kenny graduates, we may hang around Utah for at least another year. Our baby plans are the same, we'll start trying at the end of next summer, and the baby will hopefully come just after Kenny graduates. At that point, I get my 3 months maternity leave and Kenny can work full time.
The problem is that I really REALLY like my job. I never thought I would be a career girl. And still, having kids is my top priority (an all-consuming thought, as a matter of fact). But it just wouldn't make sense to pull me out of work so soon. So I had thought "if I could work for one year more, we could put a significant chunk into savings/Omniture stock... but I won't put off baby plans for money. I wonder if Kenny would be willing to be a stay-at-home daddy for 9 months or so." I quickly put the thought out of my mind, thinking it was selfish of me.
I ended up asking Kenny all the same, in a purely hypothetical sense, if he would mind, and he completely surprised me. He says that he would love to take some time off to be a stay-at-home dad and it would make so much sense for our situation. Here's the clincher: I asked him what he would do with that time at home and he looked at me like I was being dense and said "catch up on video games of course!" And there you have it. Kenny gets time to be a daddy and play video games, and I have time to save up money and solidify my usefulness at work so maybe someday I could work from home. I've already planned it all out in our budget (all expenses up until august of 09) and it looks like this new plan is the best goal for now. Now, if only my brain would stop mumbling "baby baby baby pregnant baby baby" at me all the time... I got to wait 6/7 more months til we can really think about such things!
